Lack of minutes prompts Hojbjerg to consider Tottenham exit

Tottenham Hotspur FC midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is willing to bid adieu to North London this summer owing to a lack of minutes under his belt in the recently concluded season.

The Lilywhites signed Hojbjerg in 2020 for £15 million following his impressive performances for Southampton when Jose Mourinho was in charge at Hotspur Way. He has enjoyed spells integral to Spurs midfield under previous managers; however, the 28-year-old has failed to do so under the Australian boss, and his time at the club could be coming to an end as his frustrations grow while sitting on the bench at N17.

The Dane maestro’s agent has made it clear that the former Bayern Munich star is willing to speak with clubs over a move away from White Hart Lane; however, any potential suitors will need to have a realistic shot at winning important silverware. This statement apparently rules out moves to the Saudi Pro League and MLS, indicating that his client would be staying in Europe.

Hojbjerg has been subject to interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Napoli; both clubs are right in the fold at the top of their respective leagues. He is also linked with a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, who are a reputed side, complemented by the arrival of Jose Mourinho at the helm. However, the latter are unable to come to common terms with Tottenham over a fee for the 28-year-old at the time of writing.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Hojbjerg’s agent, Luca Puccinelli, said: “A player like him will surely be part of a club with great ambition or project because he is not just a strong player but with a character made to fight for important things every year.”

The North Londoners are believed to have already set a reduced asking price for Hojbjerg; however, the Turkish club came in with an offer rumoured to be less than half of what Daniel Levy is asking for the 28-year-old’s services.
