The Metro today reports that Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien will be offered as part of the deal to bring Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge.
The Ghanaian international has failed to re-capture his early Chelsea career form and Chelsea are willing to let Essien go in order to bring in Modric.
Despite Spurs chairman Daniel Levy considering the matter closed, Chelsea are expected to return with an improved offer and an eight-figure sum plus Essien, it may be an offer too good to turn down.
Spurs, however, may hold out for a deal that could include Didier Drogba as part of the transfer.
The Ivorian is holding out for a two-year contract extention but with Chelsea only offering a one-year deal, Drogba may find his days at Stamford Bridge limited especially with the proposed transfer of Romelu Lukaku set to be completed in the coming weeks.
