Mauricio Pochettino does not have the largest squad in the Premier League to deal with but he has done something which no one expected him to do all season and that is challenge for the Premier League crown. Leicester’s manager Claudio Ranieri also stated that Tottenham are now favourites for the title, even if it were mind games, this could well come true at the end of the season, Spurs winning the league.

There is, however the minor distraction of the Europa League, which could come in the way of Spurs. Tottenham face Borussia Dortmund in a mouth-watering clash in the round of 16 stage, Spurs know that winning this competition would give them automatic qualification for the Champions League next season which was the aim for Spurs in the current campaign.

Tottenham could yet do without the miles of travelling and the fact that if they do defeat Dortmund they could end up facing a host of other tough teams such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayer Leverkusen or Sevilla.

Tottenham though have one thing in the bag, they could claim a Champions League spot if they do well in the league. Instead of having to win say 7 more games to lift the Europa League crown against a bunch of tough opponents, a few more wins the league should secure them a top four place in the league.

Pochettino does not have the luxury of a large squad and keeping them fresh for the Premier League challenge should be the first priority for him and the players. They probably will never get another chance as great as this to claim the Premier League crown and should not let this chance slip like Liverpool did.

Spurs have 11 games remaining in the league campaign and they have a 10-point cushion over Manchester United who are in fifth place, that is the target for the Spurs side, to ensure they are as far away from the fifth placed team in the league.

Tottenham do have some tough fixtures remaining in the league such as the away trips to Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham, while they face Arsenal and Manchester United at home, again not the easiest of ties.

But they do have some easy games against Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Brom and Bournemouth, which should get them the maximum points from these ties. The crucial games have been listed above, a win against United and Arsenal could well give Tottenham and its players the final push they need to get over the line.

Pochettino has been incredible for his side this season, the manager deserves probably to win the title of the best manager this season but that will only take place if he defeats Claudio Ranieri and his flying Foxes. The run up to the title will be incredible and Spurs should concentrate on the league and the league alone to break the duck from 1960-61, this is their season, at least a part of London believes so.

  1. Logic say’s we must prioritize the PL but we shall see when it comes to Dortmond.
All the EL can offer is a CL spot and a cup, but it’s still a cup and does have some kudos in winning it. I’ll be happy with 4 points from the two derbies and if we avoid major injuries, then I feel we have the men and the legs to go for it….and German food ain’t too bad and fags are cheap, so why not?
