Tottenham have provided a mighty challenge for the Premier League title when no one expected them to. Mauricio Pochettino was brought in to stabilize the club and give it a real chance of making it into the Champions League next season.
That has been easily achieved by the Argentine and Tottenham would now be planning for next season. Tottenham might not be at the top of the league table but the need to play regular Champions League football is a must for a side that aspires to be one of the best in the world.
Pochettino would also like to try his hand out in the most coveted club competition in the world but there are a few things that must be done if Spurs are to make it into the top four again next season.
Keep Harry Kane fresh
This one will be the biggest key to ensuring that Tottenham not only have the goals to beat the big sides but also ensure they have the attacking sharpness that has been there this season. Kane started the season slow but has managed to bang in 27 goals in 46 games.
Kane has played 46 times this season and 51 times in the last. With the Euros coming up and Kane being a crucial part of that team, keeping him fresh and rested would be important for Tottenham. They do not have other players who can take over from the English attacker and that would be a big problem for them if he does not fire next year.
Play with the same swagger
One thing we have seen this season more than any other has been to take teams on no matter where the game is played. Tottenham have played some exceptional football this season and that should be something that they need to maintain next season as well.
Mauricio Pochettino has brought new ideas and playing styles and the players are benefiting by putting up some great displays. The performances against some of the ‘big’ sides have been incredible and this has to be reproduced next season as well.
Buy a few quality players
The loss of Jan Vertonghen did affect Spurs even though Kevin Wimmer did step up later on. Tottenham have a lot of quality but not enough strength in depth. The sheer number of games took a toll on the squad and playing in the Champions League next season will be a tougher test than the Europa League.
Tottenham do have a batch of youngsters who are waiting to break into the side but players such as Clinton N’Jie and Son Heung Min have to do better. Pochettino has been great with his transfers so far during his time at Tottenham and well, he might have to do something similar next season as well.
