Tottenham welcomed Liverpool to White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon, for a high intensity battle with both sides looking to take back all three points. Jurgen Klopp’s side had seen a mixed start to the new campaign, winning one and losing one, while Spurs were still unbeaten with a draw and a win.

Though the north London outfit did not lose the game, their showing on the night was horrible. The game was dominated by the visitors, who should have possibly won it, had it not been for a poor refereeing decision.

The Reds took the lead in the 43rd minute when Roberto Firmino was brought down in the box. James Milner stepped up and scored from the spot. There were no more goals in the first period, with the visitors dominating the play.

The story in the second half was similar as well, as the hosts tried to take control of the game. Sadio Mane’s goal was disallowed after the linesman gave an offside call for a goal that should have stood. If the goal would have stood, it would have probably ended any hopes that Tottenham had of a recovery.

However, Pochettino’s team fought back to equalize when Danny Rose smashed one into the back of the net, beating a charging Simon Mignolet from a corner kick in the 72nd minute. There were no more goals and both teams took back a point from this encounter.

Player Ratings:

Michel Vorm: 7/10

Prevented the opposition attackers from getting too much time to score as he charged towards them at times, especially Mane.

Kyle Walker: 5/10

Picked up an injury in the first half and had to be replaced.

Jan Vertonghen: 6/10

Could not deal with the threat of Mane as his pace was too much at times. Despite that, tried to keep check on the Senegal international and did a decent job overall.

Danny Rose: 7.5/10

Rose

Looked good on the left wing both at the back and while pushing forward as well. Scored the equalizer for his team in the second period to help them take a point on the night.

Toby Alderweireld: 6/10

Looked good in the air, though the Reds’ attacker’s pace was too much for him at times. Had a good chance to score as well, though his shot was well saved by Mignolet.

Dele Alli: 5.5/10

Looked really poor on the night and could not showcase his talent in a game rather dominated by Liverpool.

Erik Lamela: 4.5/10

A little unfortunate to give away the penalty towards the end of the first half. Did not push forward as much as he would have liked and his contribution in the game was quite weak.

Victor Wanyama: 7.5/10

Looked good in front of his team’s defensive line, keeping the likes of Coutinho out. Also helped his side push ahead with some good passing.

Eric Dier: 6.5/10

Forced to play as a right-back after Walker went off and did not have the best game playing in an unfamiliar role. Despite that, played his part in the equalizing goal for Rose.

Christian Eriksen: 4/10

His passing was pathetic on the night, which broke his side’s momentum and so were his set-pieces.

Harry Kane: 6/10

Troubled both Matip and Lovren at times with his speed and strength, though he could not do much in the game, as his team was not playing at their best.

Substitutes:

Vincent Janssen:  6/10

Came on when Walker went off with an injury in the first half, though he did not do too much in the match.

Josh Onomah: N/A

Came on for Kane with seven minutes of normal time remaining.

Harry Winks: N/A

Brought on quite late just to see off the game, as Spurs got a point back.
