With 9 matches into the season, Tottenham remains the only unbeaten team in the English Premier League. The disappointment of last season is still very much fresh in the supporters minds, therefore the expectations are high from Pochettino and his men this season. The fact they missed out on the title only because of their end of season slump and Leicester’s heroics. Their run of 4 games without a win last season not only hampered their title winning chances but also saw them finish below their North London rivals Arsenal. The summer proved to be pretty successful for Spurs, who brought in quality players like Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen, who have not only strengthened the depth of the squad but has also added solidity to the Spurs’ spine.

Tottenham currently lies third spot, just one point behind league leaders Arsenal. With other rivals strengthening heavily in the summer, the race for the Title will be the tightest one in years. However, Tottenham have the team spirit and the talent in their squad to go the whole distance, if they can manage to keep the consistency of their performance week in week out. In Pochettino, Tottenham have one of the most dedicated and talented managers in the world.

Last season’s crumble at the end was mainly due to Tottenham’s inability to cover for starting XI players who missed out in the final weeks due to an injury or suspension. However, this year from front to back, Pochettino has at least 2 players who can deputize for each other during the course of the season. With Tottenham participating in the Champions League this season, the manager will need to utilize all his squad depth, in order to rotate the starting XI and keep players fresh week after week.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli are still the team’s creative hub but with Son in good form and players like Wanyama and Eriksen pulling the strings from the middle, Pochettino has a set of players who can compete against the best in the League and go the whole distance, if they can keep their heads to the ground. Tottenham had the joint best defensive record in the League last season, not much has changed in that back four this time around, therefore they have the defensive stability at the back to push forward and attack teams with lethality.

The victory against Manchester City before the international break gave the team the much-needed confidence to compete against the top clubs in England. With a young charismatic manager at the helm and quality players all over the pitch, this could finally be the season when we see Tottenham lifting the Premier League title after all the wait.
