Tottenham are ready to listen to offers for the midfielder Tom Carroll, who has fallen down the pecking order after an impressive first few years at the club. He has had just one minute of Premier League football after appearing as a late substitute in the second game against Crystal Palace. Since then, he has featured in only the EFL Cup matches. The signings of Victor Wanyama and the presence of Eric Dier mean that Carroll has been unable to feature anywhere close to the first-team.

In order to increase the funds available for manager Mauricio Pochettino in January, Spurs are ready to sell Carroll. Such a move would also free up some space in the squad. And the reports from the Sun has now emerged that Carroll would be making a return to the Liberty stadium, as Swansea are keen on signing him on a permanent basis. The 24-year-old spent one campaign on loan at Swansea during the 2014-15 season. They were the good times at Swansea as the club largely stayed clear of relegation trouble. Now, though, it is a different Swansea as they are struggling with relegation trouble since the start of the campaign.

The recent 3-0 win over Sunderland has certainly eased the pressure on manager Bob Bradley, but the American still has a long way to go to rescue Swansea. He has had just two wins since taking over the club in October. Swansea are reportedly ready to back their manager substantially in the January transfer window in order to give him the best possible chance to keep the club in the Premier League. Swansea are ready to sign a new central defender and a central midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

Rather than bringing a new name, the club have reportedly revisit the possibility of signing Carroll on a permanent basis even though the English midfielder will cost around £10 million. Spurs are unlikely to let the player leave on a cheap even though he is not in the plans of manager Pochettino. Since his contract does not expire until the summer of 2019, Spurs would consider themselves to be in a relatively safe situation.

In his season long loan spell, Carroll impressed Swansea sufficiently after featuring in 18 games and scoring one goal. The goal came against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup.

The only stumbling block to a potential deal would be the threat of relegation affecting the club. It remains to be seen if the midfielder would accept being part of a Championship club, as it remains a distinct possibility with the club in the relegation zone, next season. Swansea already have a couple of promising English names like Jay Fulton and Leon Britton, who were key figures in the win over Sunderland.
