Mauricio Pochettino says 'important' Eric Dier will not be leaving Tottenham amid Bayern Munich and Chelsea links

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed all the rumours regarding Eric Dier’s future at the Lane and has insisted that he is and will be an important player for the side for years to come.

According to the reports from The Times, the 22-year-old versatile midfielder was linked with the clubs like Bayern Munich and Chelsea, and the source further mentioned that he is unhappy at the club due to the amount of game time he is getting due to the fantastic form of Victor Wanyama.

The injury to Toby Alderweireld was a huge blow for the Lilly-Whites, but it came as a blessing in disguise for the England international, as he filled the void left by the Belgian. But with Alderweireld now fit and both Wanyama and Dembele forming a formidable partnership, Dier’s game time will be cut short and the 22-year-old fears that it will affect his spot in the national team.

There is no doubt about Dier’s talent, as he simply is one of the best in his spot, but with manager keen on using the duo of Wanyama and Dembele for most of the games, his worries are obvious. However, Pochettino has dismissed all the possibilities of this happening and the Argentine has mentioned there was zero chance of Dier leaving the north London club after he played the full 90 minutes in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Hull.

Speaking to Talksport, the manager said:

“I know there are a lot of rumours, but he’s 100% our player,” said the Spurs boss.

“He’s very important for us. He signed a contract after the Euros and showed his commitment to the club.

“There’s no doubt his future is at White Hart Lane.”

The Lilly-Whites were facing some serious troubles regarding the contract extension spree, but many first teamers agreed to the terms with the club and have signed new deals. Players like Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane have extended their stay and Dier was one of them, as he signed a new five-year contract with the Lilly-Whites back in September.

Despite all of this, one player is yet to sign the papers; Hugo Lloris. The French captain has stalled his contract talks and there are rumours that he might leave the club at the end of the season if a top offer comes calling.

This is no secret that Dier is one of the most important players in the squad and even if he has fallen out of the first team, he should be well aware of the fact that the side do not really have who possess the same abilities to that of Dier. With Dembele out with an injury, Tottenham only have Dier, who can replace the Belgian to keep his side rolling.

Besides that, Tottenham still have the European fixtures to play for in the Europa League, hence, the chances will come by for Dier. He just needs to stay focus and keep his head out of all the rumours around the Lane.
