Tottenham seem to be completing important deals with their current stars. The London club recently announced that Hugo Lloris had signed a new deal with the club that keeps him at the club until 2022. This comes after Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen also penned new deals with the side.

Now it is being reported that another one of their best players, Toby Alderweireld is set to sign a new deal with Spurs. As reported by the Mirror, the 27-year-old Belgian has only three years left remaining at the end of the season. But they want to increase this to five years and Chairman Daniel Levy has been extremely active in keeping hold of his best players for a long time.

A pairing to keep Tottenham safe for years

Tottenham should be credited for signing on their best players for longer contracts. In this day and age of football, this might not guarantee their longevity at the club but at least ensures the side will get a decent transfer fee should they move within the contracted period.

Daniel Levy already has gotten the likes of Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen and Harry Kane on long deals and Alderweireld has to be the next player who officially pens the deal. This would ensure that the Lilywhites have their defence sorted out for a few years.

Lloris is one of the best keepers in the world and he is set to stay at Spurs till 2022 at least. Vertonghen and Alderweireld were one of the best defensive pairings last season and keeping them together at White Hart Lane certainly is a step in the right direction for the club.

Alderweireld has not been able to play all the Premier League games this season and that has affected Tottenham to a degree. It is also the attack that has struggled to click against the top clubs this season, however, Spurs are just one point behind Arsenal in the race for the top four.

Playing Vertonghen and Alderweireld in the heart of their defence is certainly the best pairing they can put out and hopefully, they can keep the duo fit for the rest of the season.

This should just be the start of keeping a few more players on a long-term contract. Tottenham have to ensure their best players aren’t tempted by the big bucks and for now it seems the players believe in the project being created by Mauricio Pochettino. That can only be good news for all fans of the club as they look to return to the Champions League next season.
