Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has set himself a personal target to achieve and says that he will succeed in England at the end of his first 12 months in the country. Janssen moved to Tottenham on 12th July 2016 for £17m and is yet to score an open play goal for his new club. However, he seems determined not to give up too easily and is set to fight for his place.
Speaking to De Telegraaf (h/t Yahoo),
“I have given myself 12 months to succeed in the Premier League with Tottenham and those 12 months are not over yet. The level is really high here. Up until last week, we were second in the league.”
He also insisted that he has only one year of top-level experience in his career and at the same time, he is not willing to quit England in such a short span of time.
He said, “Don’t forget I had only played one season at the highest level in Holland when Spurs bought me from AZ Alkmaar. In a short period of time, I have made some big steps forward in my career.
“I’m not going to throw the towel in just because things are not going great for the first time in my career. I am jumping to put the Spurs shirt on, but I will have to prove to the coach that I deserve to play.” he added.
Janssen has struggled to replicate his previous season’s form and has struggled to score.
However, the striker is not to be underestimated. He is still only 22-years old and is only in his 4th season of his senior football career and is in the 2nd season of top flight football. English league is quite a challenge to cope with for any foreign player who arrives and maybe Janssen is still trying to find the right rhythm.
It would be unfair to brand him a flop signing, as he deserves more time to prove himself. He seems determined to fight for his place in the team and is all pumped up to prove his critics wrong. This is the kind of mentality that successful players have and he is exhibiting it.
A player of Janssen’s talent has every chance of succeeding in the Premier League and it would be a joy to watch him score goals if he hits top form.
