A certain young left-back joined Manchester United back in 2014 for an undisclosed fee and became the world’s most expensive teenager. Fast forward to 2017, he is now out of favour at the club, and rumours are circling that the player is angling for a move. The player is none other than Luke Shaw.
Shaw was one of the most exciting young talents in world football and he was rightly signed by the Red Devils. He was expected to fill the big boots of Patrice Evra but somehow, it hasn’t happened so far.
Mourinho has repeatedly insisted that Luke Shaw needs to show some fight to get into the team and he is right. Nobody ever walks into the team just like that; at least not a youngster like Luke Shaw who is yet to achieve in his career.
However, the transfer story does not begin with Luke Shaw. It begins with Manchester City. The club’s two left-backs Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov are both above 30 years of age and are on the wane. This will surely be on the back of Pep Guardiola’s mind as it is really important to have a solid back four. He strengthened it by buying a young John Stones, and he may well be on the lookout for an English full-back.
According to Mirror, Guardiola is targeting a move for Tottenham’s Danny Rose and it is not hard to see why.
Manchester City’s transfer policy is easy to understand. They are trying to build a team with a lot of English talents in the squad. Apparently, Luke Shaw is at Manchester United, and a move is literally impossible given the high ambitions that the clubs have. The other options of course, would be Baines, Gibbs, and Rose. Needless to say, the best choice would be Danny Rose. He is young, experienced and extremely talented. He is above Baines and Gibbs in the pecking order for a place in the national team and is easily the most feasible option for Pep.
Assuming that Danny moves to Manchester City, this leaves Spurs looking for a left-back too. They will enter the market to find a replacement for their regular full-back. Spurs’ best choice would be Luke Shaw. He is young, highly rated, and is not in the first team picture at Old Trafford. Hence, Spurs view it as a good chance to lure Shaw away from Man Utd and this is not the first time that they have been linked with the player.
On the other hand, Tottenham would be extremely reluctant to let Danny Rose leave the club. They clearly have high ambitions and are looking to bid for the title and it would be foolish on their part to directly strengthen a title rival.
So here’s how it looks:
Danny Rose – Tottenham to Manchester City
Luke Shaw – Manchester United to Tottenham.
There is also a possibility of Manchester United trying to replace Shaw, but it seems unlikely as the club already have enough options in hand.
A transfer merry-go-round? Apparently, the answer seems like a Yes.
