Plenty of rumours have engulfed midfielder Erik Lamela in the last few weeks. These rumours have escalated even further upon learning that the player will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing a hip surgery. Lamela has not played for the club since October 2016, and he has already been spotted several times in Italian capital Rome. This has led to widespread suggestions that he is on the verge of joining former team AS Roma in the summer. Even though manager Mauricio Pochettino has quickly dismissed those rumours, there remains some amount of doubt over his future.

Lamela has tried to address this issue by posting a picture on his Twitter account where he wrote: ‘The surgery went well, thanks to all for your positive messages.’

He has been ruled out for five months with this issue, and he will not be returning until the start of next season. Whether he remains a Spurs player by then remains a doubt, but there continues to be plenty of interest surrounding the player. Apart from Roma, Inter Milan are also heavily interested in the player according to fresh transfer rumours.

Lamela has a contract with Spurs until the summer of 2020. At 25 years of age, he is just entering into the best time of his career. So far, he has been able to prove that he has incredible talent whenever called upon. Now, it will be the time to apply this talent and potential in order to help Tottenham move to the next level.

A 2-0 win over Burnley coupled with Chelsea’s 2-1 loss against Crystal Palace during the weekend saw Spurs close the gap at the top of the table to 7 points. Pochettino was extremely delighted with the outcome, as he believes that the seven-point deficit is still attainable with nine games left in the season. Tottenham’s next match is against Swansea at the Liberty stadium, while Chelsea have yet another difficult game against Manchester City.
