Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has made a sensational claim stating that Tottenham are focusing on better things than just finishing above Arsenal. This is a strong statement from the Tottenham boss and it is sure to add more fire to the burn that the Arsenal fans are going through right now.

Tottenham last finished above Arsenal in 1995 and haven’t really had a chance to do so again, until last season, where they were agonisingly close to finishing 2nd in the table below Leicester. And as fate had it, Spurs lost to Newcastle United on the final day of the 2015/16 season and finished below Arsenal. Talk about luck!

But this season, things look entirely different, as Tottenham, in terms of points tally, are closer to Chelsea who are on top of the table, than the 6th placed Arsenal. Spurs are 14 points ahead of Arsenal, though the Gunners have a game in hand (not that they are going to win it anyway).

Now, the Spurs boss insists that they have bigger targets than just finishing above Arsenal and says that catching Chelsea is the priority for them right now.

Pochettino was quoted by Sky Sports,

“I think we’re playing and fighting for bigger things. “If we look at the bigger picture, it’s to try to reduce the gap with Chelsea. I think today it’s not important, the gap we have with Arsenal. “The most important thing is to do our job, try to win games and try to reduce the gap with Chelsea.”

Tottenham face Bournemouth this weekend on Saturday and have a chance to reduce the gap with Chelsea from 7 points to 4 points. Chelsea would play against Manchester United on Sunday and there is every chance that the gap might stay at 4 points at the end of the weekend, as Manchester United are on a remarkable run.

If Chelsea lose to Man United and if Spurs beat the Cherries, the title race would go all the way down to the wire. Buckle up everyone, we are heading for a nail-biting finish!
