Tim Sherwood

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has delivered his verdict on Tottenham and Chelsea this season and it doesn’t read too well for the Spurs faithful.

Sherwood was the Tottenham manager when Andre Villas-Boas was sacked as the Spurs boss and was in charge for a short period of time, before Mauricio Pochettino took over. Sherwood joined Tottenham as the assistant coach to Harry Redknapp in 2008 and was appointed as the Technical Director in 2012.

He led Tottenham’s Under-21 side in the inaugural Under-21 Premier League season, guiding the side to finish top in both group and elite stages. Sherwood’s side eventually lost the league final 3–2 to Manchester United.

Tim Sherwood has stated that Tottenham can look pretty on the eye but their Premier League title rivals Chelsea have been the “more clinical” this season.

Tottenham disappointingly lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup semifinal last weekend and despite the game being so closely fought, it ended 4-2 in favour of Chelsea. Tottenham came from behind twice to draw level at 1-1 and 2-2, before Eden Hazard took the game away from Spurs by scoring a goal against the run of play.

The game was completely out of reach when Nemanja Matic scored an absolute belter to make it 4-2. It was hurting to see Spurs lose the game in such manner and surely, the score line does not reflect the way how Tottenham played that day.

However, Sherwood has delivered a honest verdict and he said,

“Tottenham had all the possession, all the play, all the movement, all the rotation, it all looked pretty to the eye, but the most clinical team is Chelsea and that is what has been happening all season. Lesser teams than Tottenham have had more possession than Chelsea, so we cannot get carried away with possession, you have to get carried away with how many chances and how many they take.”

Despite the FA Cup setback, Tottenham still have a great chance to catch up on Chelsea in the league title race and the boys cannot afford to get affected by the FA Cup defeat and throw the league title away.

And talking about Tottenham fans, he highlighted how star striker Harry Kane was not always ‘one of our own’ as famously claimed by the fans back when he was managing the club and Soldado was the striker.

Talking to Skysports’ Goals on Sunday he said;

“I laugh now when I hear Tottenham fans say ‘he’s one of our own’. He wasn’t always one of their own because if [Soldado was] sitting on the bench, if Harry hadn’t scored after half an hour then they would be singing for Soldado to come on the pitch. But now he’s one of our own. Brilliant. Fantastic and he is one of their own.”

There is still life in the title race as Chelsea’s defeat at Old Trafford handed Spurs a massive boost. Pochettino’s men must look to take advantage of that and continue to fight hard in what is their best chance to lift the title in many, many years.

  1. Sherwood is a muppet , most clinical all season ?? thats why Spurs are ahead +47 on GD, and are not behind chelski in the goals for 69-69 , He is only jealous , as its not him putting Spurs where they are , i dont see him managing any top side any time soon .
    I hope MoPo and the players stay next season and go on to win some silverware , to shut idiot ex footballers like him up………

  2. Bitter twisted little man who has never been on the same level as Pochettino and that is why he was passed over.
    From my membory of Harry Kane he was supported from step one because of the inability of Saldado to score, Kane lived locally as a boy, is a Spurs supporter and came up through the junior ranks and later proved himself on loan and at the Lane.
    He wanted to be a pro footballer and that led him to his one failing, playing for a team he did not support as a kid but as he said, he wanted to wear a Spurs shirt on the day the infamous picture was taken.
