Fauzi Ghoulam

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to sign highly-rated Napoli left-back Fauzi Ghoulam, who is also being chased by AC Milan and Chelsea.

It was earlier said that AC Milan representatives had met with the player’s agent to discuss a move but now Tottenham have joined the race to sign the 26-year old Algerian left-back. Milan were believed to be trying to sign the full-back as a replacement for Mattia De Sciglio, who is being targeted by Liverpool.

Tottenham did not have any problems with the left-back position until Danny Rose’s injury. However, the Englishman is very close to making a return for the club.

Ghoulam has made 33 appearances for Napoli this term and has 7 assists to his name. Ghoulam is strong in the air, is a good passer and is capable of finding his teammates in good positions as well. He is a type of player who likes to keep the ball at his feet and get involved in the build-up play.

Ben Davies

Our Verdict

However, the question is; what would his arrival mean at White Hart Lane? Tottenham have two quality left-backs in Danny Rose and Ben Davies. In the absence of Rose, Davies has been fantastic for Tottenham and is looking like a player who deserves a place in the Tottenham XI.

The arrival of Ghoulam would certainly end Davies’ Tottenham dreams. Danny Rose is simply way too good to be replaced by Ghoulam, and hence that is not even an option to think about. It would be bizarre to say that Davies can be replaced by the Algerian. Ben Davies has settled in well at White Hart Lane under Pochettino and there is no valid reason as to why he should be replaced. Davies is young, dynamic and is a player who seems to suit Pochettino’s style of play.

We are certain that Pochettino wouldn’t want to change too much in the defence department as it looks well polished and composed. It is hard to see why Ghoulam has even been linked with Tottenham as there is absolutely no need for Pochettino to alter the defence. It is the best in the league. Case closed!
