Tottenham have been linked with a move for 23-year old German striker Maximilian Philipp, who currently plays for SC Freiburg. According to German news publication Kicker (h/t talkSport), Tottenham are weighing up a move for the young German, as they look to bolster their squad for next season.

Tottenham’s season has been a painful one considering that the team exited from the European competitions at a really early stage. While the team was knocked out of Champions League in the group stages, their relegation to Europa League didn’t bear too many fruits either, as they were knocked out in the round of 32 stages of the competition.

However, the league campaign can be considered a successful one as Spurs are set to finish second in the table, next to Chelsea, who were crowned as Champions after their 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion. Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to West Ham United opened up the chance for the Blues to snatch the title, which they happily did.

The FA Cup run was also ended by Chelsea who beat the Lilywhites in the semifinal stage of the competition.

After the kind of season that we’ve had, Pochettino would certainly be looking to add some strength to the squad. The likes of Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen have failed after arriving in the summer and so a lot of care has to be taken this time out when Pochettino identifies his targets.

Maximilian Philipp has had a decent season, where he has scored 9 goals and 5 assists in 26 games. He has played a majority of those games as a second striker and has also featured as a winger and a centre-forward. However, he has been most productive when deployed as a secondary striker.

His performances in a centre-forward role have earned him no results as he hasn’t scored or assisted in the 3 games where he has been used as a CF.

Signing Philipp would provide Pochettino with a good backup option for Dele Alli, who has more or less played as a secondary striker. Alli has been top class this season and has scored 21 goals and 11 assists this season and won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the second season running.

Phillip would be nothing more than a squad player if he arrives at Tottenham.

Do you think Pochettino should sign Maximilian Philipp?
