Kevin Wimmer of Tottenham

Kevin Wimmer did have a great start to his career when he moved to White Hart Lane from Cologne but his time on the pitch has been severely limited thanks to the outstanding performances of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld this season.

Tottenham signed Kevin Wimmer for around £4.3million in 2015 but now it seems like the end is near for Kevin Wimmer’s stay at Tottenham, as German website Express report that we are looking for around £17.6million for the 24-year-old defender – a profit of around £13million. Not bad business after all!

The lack of first team minutes certainly is an issue for Wimmer and with the World Cup coming ahead, it isn’t a surprise that he is looking for an exit route from Tottenham. The Austrian only played 5 Premier League games and one game in the Champions League – something that will affect his place in the Austrian side should they make it to the World Cup in 2018.

Regarding the transfer fee, it does seem to be a bit steep considering the fact that we didn’t give Wimmer too many minutes on the pitch last season. Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy have been looking at other options to bring into central defence with Harry Maguire of Hull City also being linked with a move to our club.

Wimmer might also get a chance to stay in England, since a number of clubs from the Premier League are also looking to bolster their defence. The problem regarding his signature could come with his contract, as he is tied down with us until 2021.

We do need to be extra careful when it comes to letting Wimmer go, after all, cover for the central defenders would be necessary as we embark on another Champions League campaign next season. Poch and the team would also be looking to go one better in the league and maybe keeping Wimmer would help us in dealing with the cup games.

Unfortunately, that would not sit well with the 24-year-old and if he does leave, there wouldn’t be any hard feelings from either side.

Do you think we should keep hold of Kevin Wimmer?
