Tottenham Could Sign Former Target As Club Is Ready To Sell Midfielder For Less Than His £39m Release Clause

Last summer we were linked with a move for one of Portugal’s brightest stars in Adrien Silva. However, his club, Sporting Lisbon didn’t want to part with their star in the making and rejected any bids for the 28-year-old.

Now, Portuguese source O Jogo reports that the club are looking to cash in on the Euro 2016 winner and would be looking to sell him for less than the £39million release clause.

The report claims that the club are now sufficiently covered in the midfield area with the likes of Mattheus Oliviera and Rodrigo Battaglia signing up with the club.

The big question is whether we need someone like Silva in the side or not. The Portuguese can play in a number of positions and is someone who is experienced in playing in the Champions League and would add some steel to the side.

Silva is most comfortable playing at the heart of the midfield and the player scored four times and assisted twice in 27 league games last season for Sporting. Silva is known mostly for his passing ability and tackling, and he should fit well into the pace and style of the Premier League.

Mousa Dembele’s injury is also something that will play on the mind of Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to take us closer to the Premier League title and performing even better in the Champions League.

We also have Harry Winks, who did start a few games last season, doing really well. But the youngster is also injured and without Dembele and Winks, we might look to bring in some quality cover.

Simply relying on Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier would not be enough for us to start the season well. The Daily Mail claims that Poch and his side are looking to bring in a couple of midfielders in the transfer window and one of them should be Silva, should we be willing to spend a sizeable amount.

As long as we don’t spend more than £25million, Silva would be a great addition to have in the side but anything more than that is a big risk and we haven’t been lucky with our imports under Pochettino.
