It looks like we have made a huge decision on the transfer front as some exciting reports have emerged from the media. Riyad Mahrez is a player who has been linked with us forever and he recently came out and revealed his desire to leave Leicester and move elsewhere.
Just when it looked like things were swinging in our favour, Tottenham have reportedly rejected the chance to sign the Algerian this summer and are instead targeting a move for his teammate Demarai Gray.
The £50million rated Mahrez earlier revealed that he wants to move away from Leicester, stating that he is fiercely ambitious and that he wants to try a new experience elsewhere.
He was quoted as saying,
“Out of the huge admiration and respect I hold for Leicester City Football Club I wanted to be totally honest and transparent with them and have therefore informed the club that I feel now is the time for me to move on. I had a good discussion with the Chairman last summer and we agreed at that time that I would stay for another year in order to help the club as best as I could following the transition of winning the title and in the Champions League.”
“However, I am fiercely ambitious and feel that now is the time to move on to a new experience. I’ve always enjoyed a good relationship with the Chairman and everyone at the club, and I hope I have been able to repay the faith shown to me by my performances and commitment on the pitch here.”
With these comments of his, it seemed as though we’d pounce on the player. However, the Daily Mirror claim that Spurs would rather sign his Leicester team-mate Demarai Gray, and have pulled out of the race for the time being.
The report says that Juventus have also entered the race for the 26-year old’s signature and it is possibly a wise move by us to not get indulged in a bidding war for a player who hasn’t delivered since his title-winning heroics.
