Tottenham Ready To Bid For Real Madrid Midfielder In Search Of Playing Time – Arsenal Also Keen

Mateo Kovacic is a wanted man according to Spanish source Diario Gol. The Daily Star carries the report which states that Tottenham and Arsenal are preparing offers for the Real Madrid midfielder.

Kovacic signed for Real Madrid only a couple of years ago but has failed to impress at the Bernabeu. The 23-year-old only started 19 La Liga games for the Champions last season and with the rise of Casemiro, his minutes under Zinedine Zidane will probably not increase next season too.

The problem, like it will be for many non-regulars in a side, is that the lack of playing time could mean an exclusion from the World Cup squad for 2018.

The report claims that Kovacic is looking to make a switch from the Spanish capital but his preference isn’t just in the English teams as a trio of Italian powerhouses are looking to add the midfielder to their squad.

AS Roma, AC Milan and Inter Milan want to sign the Croatian and with the recent financial might of AC Milan, we will find it tough to nab Kovacic from their hands.

There is more ridiculous content in the Dail Star report which adds that we see Kovacic as the perfect replacement should Dele Alli leave Tottenham, which surely will not happen in the coming seasons.

A tough decision lies ahead for Zidane

The Croatian has around four years left on his contract and a return to Inter Milan, he was signed from them by Real, could be the ideal club for him at this moment.

Zidane too doesn’t want to lose out on a player that has a lot of potential and wants to keep him at the Bernabeu but it does seem likely that the Croatian has one foot out of the club already.

Unless he is guaranteed regular football, Kovacic will leave but it will be interesting to see just where he goes. Both AC Milan and Inter don’t have Champions League football but we do and maybe that will help him make the decision.

We do need someone who can cover for the likes of Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama and with Kovacic’s playmaking ability from the heart of the park, he would provide a great option alongside a more defensive minded player.
