Tottenham are interested in Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz according to reports from Daily Mirror. The report claims that Tottenham, along with a number of other clubs want to sign the 23-year-old.

While the forward does have a great record for the Real Madrid Castilla side with 32 goals from 43 games, his time on the pitch for the first team has been limited, not that it is a big surprise to anyone who follows Spanish football.

Real do have one of the best teams in the world and breaking into the Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Alvaro Morata and Karim Benzema line-up would be a tough task for anyone.

Mariano now wants to play first team football and is willing to move away from the Spanish side and is willing to even try his luck out in England.

Liverpool are also interested in the player according to Spanish outlet AS, The Reds failed twice to sign the striker during the last transfer window. The report also adds that the 23-year-old rejected close to 10 deals as he wanted to try out his time at Madrid.

With just eight substitute appearances in the league last season, Mariano will have to move away if he does want to get better as a footballer and we would certainly be a great bet for the development of a talented youngster.

Even though Diaz is 23, he still has time on his hand, and working with Poch could be the thing that unlocks his potential and makes him into a world class striker.

We aren’t the only club interested in him with other La Liga clubs such as Real Betis and Malaga are tracking his situation.

Our Verdict

The striker might have something to prove to Real but for now, we cannot take risks in the market and the need is for a proven striker who can chip in with the goals when Harry Kane is injured. Pochettino doesn’t have a lot of money to spend at the moment and losing it on a risky transfer is the last thing we would want to do.

There are other strikers that would do a better job in the Premier League than Diaz and that should be our priority, rather than a La Liga striker that doesn’t have a lot of playing time under his belt.
