Tottenham fans have so far been disappointed by the lack of new signings at the club, but it is not down to the lack of any kind of transfer activity from the club officials. We have been making offers to several players across European football, but the plans to sign players early has been hit by the Confederations Cup. There is, however, positive news in the form of an offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva. Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports that Tottenham have made a £17.5 million offer for the midfielder in order to try and sign him before the pre-season tour, but Sporting rejected the bid.
At 28 years of age, Adrien Silva is an experienced campaigner who will be able to provide plenty of knowledge and know-how to a team that contains several young players like Dele Alli and Harry Kane. He comes on the back of a reasonably successful season with Sporting Lisbon. Adrien Silva, last season, made 27 appearances in the league and 37 in all competitions. He had managed four goals and two assists in the league, while the figure increases to 6 goals and four assists in all competitions.
Sporting Lisbon were unable to finish in the top two and qualify automatically for the UEFA Champions League. Instead, the club will be going through a play-offs uncertain about their participation in the group stages of the Champions League. At 28, Adrien Silva is at the point in his career where he wants to play at the top level. As a result, he could consider a move to Tottenham.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on strengthening the midfield, and he is believed to have sanctioned a £17.5 million offer to start with with £4 million in add-ons. However, it has been rejected, with Sporting reportedly asking around £26 million for the midfielder. A Portuguese international with 17 appearances in the national team, Adrien Silva managed to win the UEFA Euro 2016 in France last year. He has previously stated that he is keen on a new challenge, and that a move to the Premier League would represent the best possible option at this stage in his career.
Adrien Silva has reportedly come to a verbal agreement with Sporting Lisbon president Bruno de Carvalho about being allowed to leave if a good offer comes.
