‘Spurs got lucky last season’ – Liverpool Legend Comments On Our Season And The Transfer Window

The lack of transfers coming into the Tottenham side certainly has some of us worried and that feeling isn’t just limited to Spurs fans. Robbie Fowler, the former Liverpool and Manchester City striker also highlighted that fact in his column in the Mirror.

The former English striker added that we were lucky last season and should be thankful that our talisman, Harry Kane, did not pick up a long-term injury.

“Spurs got lucky last season because Kane only had one injury spell and they did not miss him too much. But if he gets a bad one or struggles, they will need better quality as back-up.”

Fowler did, however, state that we would be spending this summer and also named a player that would be joining us and help Kane in the goal scoring department.

“They will go and spend. There will be a striker coming in – I’ve heard Bournemouth’s Josh King is possible – and despite the fact there have been a few misfires in recent years, they have been building a good quality squad.”

Those misfires that Fowler was referring to were Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen. The Dutch striker was poor for us up front and the former Liverpool striker added that he wasn’t saying that Janssen was a poor player just that he was not good enough to replace Kane.

Fowler even added that Kieran Trippier is a better player according to Pochettino and that is why Kyle Walker was let go to Manchester City.

“Walker is a good player, no doubt, but maybe Pochettino believes Kieran Trippier is the better bet. He came on a lot last season and got into the England team. He is also a bit younger.”

Fortunately, the striker didn’t make it sound all gloomy for us and added that Poch does have a plan.

“I don’t think I would be too worried yet, if I were a Spurs fan – Pochettino seems to have a plan. It will be fascinating to see whether it comes off.”

Fowler Almost Hits The Nail On The Head

Most of what Fowler said was correct but stating that we were lucky to finish second last season was a bit of a stretch. Even when Kane was out due to injury, we still were tough to beat and the likes of Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen stepped up to ensure we didn’t drop points.

The Englishman was right in saying that we need to add players to our side and with a few more departures being likely, Pochettino and Daniel Levy will have to work hard to ensure we do not lose ground on other Premier League sides who are spending big.

This season could be the real test for us and our manager, as every side is spending big amounts with us not having done the same so far. The fact that we are moving into a new stadium is certainly playing a part in our dealings and hopefully, that should not lead to a deterioration in our results on the pitch.

  1. yea we got lucky that he was only injured once? he got injured how is that lucky. we had major players out for long stretches like kane, alderweireld, lamela, rose and that’s why we didn’t win the title. fowler doesn’t know what he’s talking about, knows less than regular spurs fan who gives a fuck what he says. we’ll probably keep the striker situation how it is, poch is probably happy to have an academy striker as third choice

  2. I read his article. It was not only very poor punditry, but he stated facts that were incorrect. He said Kane only injured for one spell.(no Robbie it was two), he further said that during that spell he was covered (in October we lost the league without Kane and Alderveireld).
Is it a fluke to win 12 of your last 13, to break league records, to be called the hardest team they played by Chelsea?
No Robbie it was no fluke, and next season we’ve shall be a 3 season wonder, just like Big Harry

  3. Is it fluke to have 3 players in the team score 20+ goals last season and for Kane to win the golden boot again with the lesser amount of games that he played during the season?

  4. Don’t you find that a lot of pundits try and put us down. Beginning of last season we were critisised for not buying bigger and better, that no way will Spurs be top 4. Actually the only player we bought that had any impact was the excellent Wanyama.
Our dilemma this pre season is who could improve the first team…unless It’s a Messi level then no one, and we only need 2 players for the squad in my mind.
    Barkley and a defender
