Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have revived their interest in Lazio wide man Keita Balde, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 22-year-old Senegal international was a revelation for Lazio last season having scored 16 goals in 31 appearances. 8 of those goals came in the final 6 games of the season. He has just one year left on his contract and has refused to sign an extension so far.

Target For Juventus

Throughout the summer, there were strong links to Juventus although the winger has admitted interesting in moving to the English Premier League. The Bianconeri too have moved on from Keita and signed Douglas Costa from Bayern Munich and Federico Bernardeschi from Fiorentina.

It looks certain that Juventus may not return for the player leaving Tottenham the favourites for his signature.

A Versatile Player

Keita is a versatile player and can play out wide or up front as a central striker. Most of his goals last season came when he played as a striker – so, he is adept at adapting to requirements.

His versatility could appeal to Mauricio Pochettino, who has struggled to find a player to complement Harry Kane. Vincent Janssen struggled to fit into this role and Keita’s adaptability will make him a natural back-up for Kane. However, expect Pochettino to give Janssen his chances this season and play Keita Balde out on the wings.

Can Spurs Beat The Competition For His Signature?

His exploits have earned Keita a lot of suitors as Napoli, Chelsea, Everton, and Manchester United are also reported to be interested in the winger. The bid from Napoli, reported to be in the range of £19.5million, was rejected by Lazio. They are expecting around £27million for the player (talkSPORT).

Where does that leave Tottenham? They may be encouraged by Keita’s interest in moving to England but they will have to beat the competition. We are yet to sign any player in the transfer window and as the countdown to the start of the season begins, the fans are getting nervous.

There is a strong need to strengthen the squad and Keita will be a great addition.

What do you think? Will we be able to dust off the cobwebs and bid for this talented winger?

  1. Why oh why are Spurs associated with so many ordinary players in the transfer market. We need to look after the top players we have and pay them top wages.
Until we get rid of Levy or someone kicks his backside to stop trying to be clever in the wage negotiations department we will not attract the best players. Pochetino, I’m sure must be fuming inside to see some of the young players he wants going elsewhere.
