It looks like Tottenham have to get ready for some brave rearguard action as Real Madrid get ready to prepare a move for one of Spurs’ coveted midfielders. The Daily Star reports that the Spanish giants are willing to take the next steps in Alli’s pursuit by offering Mateo Kovacic as part of a swap deal for the England ace.
Alli is one of the key players for Mauricio Pochettino after having made a huge name for himself in the Premier League. Within two years of joining the club from MK Dons, the midfielder has established himself as a pivotal name, both at the club and national level.
There is no iota of doubt that Alli is worth all the attention that he is getting from the Santiago Bernabeu. However, we are not sure if Kovacic is the kind of player who warrants a discussion.
The Croatian playmaker is currently a squad player for Real Madrid with the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos way ahead of him in the pecking order. With Real Madrid President Florentino Perez keen to build a side to challenge consistently for European honors, Kovacic looks the most expendable.
Alli is in the news recently for his decision to replace long-term negotiators Impact Sports Management. Reports indicate that top agents like Jorge Mendes and Mino Raiola have started wooing the player by promising a big-buck move to either Real Madrid or Manchester United.
With both the aforementioned super agents having enough clientele in the Real Madrid team, Alli’s choice of hiring one of them as his agent could be a little troublesome for Tottenham.
The Lilywhites have been considering handing the midfielder an improved contract that would make him one of the club’s highest earners, alongside Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.
However, with the tight and rigid pay structure at White Hart Lane, the top earners are still far away from what their peers earn at other clubs. Could that be the deciding factor when Real Madrid come calling for Alli?
Only time will tell, but the fans will hope that for the sake of the club, Alli rebuffs all those advances and stays put!
