Tottenham are monitoring the performances of Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia who is currently on loan at Spanish La Liga side Valencia, according to the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old has impressed for Valencia this season after struggling to settle down at San Siro last season. His performances have alerted Premier League clubs Tottenham and Liverpool, with both of them interested in signing the robust midfield player.
However, Valencia have an option of signing him on a permanent deal for £22m, should they decide to exercise the option. Kondogbia has made five La Liga starts for Valencia, who have started the season brightly. They are in 3rd place behind Barcelona and Sevilla.
The midfielder joined Inter in the summer of 2015 from AS Monaco but struggled to prove his worth in the Serie A. He was allowed to leave on loan to get regular game-time.
The French midfielder has five international caps to his name but hasn’t played for his nation in over two years. With the player recapturing some of his Sevilla form that made him one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe, no wonder then that there is so much interest.
Liverpool have already secured the signing of Naby Keita from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for next summer. There are concerns at Anfield that they may lose Emre Can soon, which explains their interest in Kondogbia.
What about Spurs, then? The Lilywhites are concerned about the fitness of Mousa Dembele, who is one of the best in the Premier League but gets injured quite too frequently.
There is also a section at the club worried about the long-term future of Eric Dier who attracted the interest of Manchester United in the summer. Whether that move materialises or not is a different matter but Mauricio Pochettino would love to have options.
Ross Barkley from Everton has been touted as an option although the Toffees’ astronomical demands coupled with his injury concerns stopped the transfer. The England international may once again be on the club’s radar in the next transfer window but Pochettino wouldn’t mind going for Kondogbia either.
All this will become irrelevant if Valencia choose to exercise their option of signing him permanently. Going by his current form, don’t be surprised if that is the case!
