Andre Gomes is one player that most Barcelona fans don’t want at the club. The Portuguese was signed from Valencia a year back but has not impressed many and even though he is getting game time under this season, most expected him to leave before the start of the campaign.
One club that was linked heavily for a loan move was Tottenham but the deal could not go through as expected, on the final day. That could have been in part of us keeping Moussa Sissoko or simply for the fact that Barcelona were not able to pry Philippe Coutinho away from Liverpool.
The Reds ensured that they kept hold of their star man and we were left to wonder if the deal could go through sometime later.
The Daily Mail, however, claims that we will be looking to sign the former Valencia man in the winter window and could renew our interested in the £20m-rated star.
There was some praise for the 24-year-old midfielder after he played in the 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid. Saul Niguez opened the scoring for the home side before Luis Suarez leveled for Barcelona. However, the talking point was more about Gomes doing well, with a few fans supporting his time on the pitch.
Barça counter attack. Andre Gomes initially near his box, and ended up in Atleti’s. Brilliant that he can do that at 87’ in a tough game. pic.twitter.com/sRGArXrRfG

For Barca today André Gomes won more duels & more tackles than anyone. Only Messi completed more dribbles. But, the flood of hate continues.

It does seem unlikely that just one decent performance will be enough to keep the 24-year-old at Barcelona, especially with the club looking to sign Coutinho in the next window or two.
Ernesto Valverde might also be looking to free up some space and bring in other quality players. Should we actually try to sign him up for £20m it might turn out to be a good deal if Mauricio Pochettino can help Gomes reach his potential.
Gomes wasn’t the worst player during his time at Valencia but he wasn’t the greatest either and it was a surprise when Barcelona signed him up. However, he does produce flashes of brilliance and if that is something that Pochettino can work on, that could just be the perfect deal for us and Barca too.
