Luke Shaw

Tottenham Hotspur are all set to suffer a huge transfer blow in their pursuit of Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, as reports from Daily Mail have suggested that the defender will reject every chance of moving away from Old Trafford in January as he is keen on fighting for a first-team spot.

The source further adds that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are also interested in acquiring his services during the winter transfer window. However, Shaw wants to keep fighting for his place at Manchester United and hence he will reject every offer he receives.

Last month, The Sun claimed that Mauricio Pochettino was looking forward to a reunion with Shaw, having previously worked with him at Southampton. But it seems like his pursuit has hit a roadblock now.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Shaw has been doing the rounds ever since Danny Rose hinted at a possible exit in an outrageous interview in the summer. The English international criticised Tottenham’s transfer dealings in a shocking interview with The Sun back in August, for which he was later made to apologise. The 27-year-old, however, mentioned that he would be open to making a move away from Tottenham in the near future and since then, he has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, with the latter being the strongest contenders.

In terms of Shaw, furthermore, The Mirror has credited Southampton with an interest as well, mainly due to the fact that Ryan Bertrand has been linked with a move away from the club. With Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy set to miss the majority of the season, the aforementioned source has claimed that the Citizens see Bertrand as a perfect fit at the Etihad. So if a considerable bid is made, Southampton might not block the move at the end of the day.

United manager Jose Mourinho, on his part, doesn’t seem too interested in keeping Shaw at the club, as every time the Portuguese has looked to give the left-back some game time, he has failed to live up to the billing. Moreover, the fact that Mourinho has the likes of Ashley Young, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo for just one spot is enough for him to sanction Shaw’s sale. The 22-year-old has made just two appearances this season – both in Carabao Cup and both as a substitute – and this perfectly underlines the fact that Mourinho doesn’t rate him much.

Tottenham’s approach for Shaw, however, only depends on whether Rose stays at the club or not. If the English international decides to stay, it is hard to see Pochettino making a move for Shaw, but if Rose does move on, we can surely expect a bid for Shaw to be made.
