Transfer news analyst Guillem Balague has made a claim that Tottenham Hotspur have a choice to make a move for Gareth Bale, thanks to a buy-back clause inserted in the transfer deal with Real Madrid.

The Welshman was sold to Real Madrid for a then world record transfer fee of £86million in the summer of 2013. With the 28-year-old winger reportedly mulling over leaving the Los Blancos, it is being reported that Spurs have the first option to re-sign him.

Balague confirmed the same in a Q & A session on the Sky Sports website indicating that the Lilywhites have the first option of matching the bid should Real Madrid decide to sell Bale. That, according to Balague, puts Spurs in the pole position in any race for the Welsh wizard’s signature.

“If there is any offer for Bale, Real have to contact Spurs and ask them if they want to match it,” Balague said. “So yes, there is a clause.”

Will Bale be sold by Madrid? The winger has failed to win over the Santiago Bernabeu faithful since his big-money move to the Spanish capital. There were sparks of brilliance but the spate of injuries that have kept him on the sidelines have been frustrating for the club, the player, and the supporters.

The fickle-minded Bernabeu crowd are known to turn against their own players as we have seen in the past. Even Cristiano Ronaldo is not immune to that and Bale had to bear the brunt of excessive booing and whistling.

It is understood that Bale is willing to wait until next summer and prove his worth before deciding on his next destination. However, the latest injury setback seems to have convinced the Madrid management that they can offload the winger.

Bale will not be short of suitors should Madrid look for a potential buyer. From the Premier League itself, Manchester United and Chelsea will be ready with an open offer while Paris Saint-Germain too would be interested.

What about Spurs? Mauricio Pochettino has voiced his admiration for the winger and might welcome the chance to sign him back. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players to represent Tottenham, his record is still the clincher although injuries cast a shadow over his availability.

But, will Daniel Levy and Pochettino be willing to punt the cash on their former star with a huge fee that United or Chelsea would stump up? Tough to see that happening.
