The news of Tottenham Hotspur eyeing to re-sign midfielder Luka Modric from Real Madrid will be music for all the fans. Spanish website Diario Gol suggest that Mauricio Pochettino is in the chase to bring the 32-year-old back to the club.

Modric made the move to the Bernabeu from Tottenham back in 2012 and has enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Spanish club, winning three Champions League titles and one La Liga trophy. He has been a key figure for Zinedine Zidane, forming a fantastic midfield trio with Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

The Croatia international has gone on to win things at the Spanish capital, yet reports from Spain suggest that he has informed captain Sergio Ramos that he wants to leave the club in the summer.

It has been reported that the £36m rated Modric’s most likely next destination will be the San Siro, with Inter already establishing contact with the player’s representatives. The midfielder, who is now 32 years old, knows that his best days at top-class football will come to an end in a couple of years and hence wants to fully enjoy what is left.

As a result, it is believed that both Tottenham and Manchester United are in the running. Jose Mourinho remains a big fan of Modric after he brought him to the Bernabeu during his spell in charge of Real Madrid. However, a chance to return to Spurs could very well appeal to the midfielder, in what could be a sensational swoop by Pochettino in the summer.

Despite being 32, the Croatian still has a lot to offer. The midfield maestro can be a great addition to any squad in Europe. Since moving to Spain, Modric has gone from strength to strength. He is a midfielder with immense quality and talent and should make our club stronger.

We need a player with title-winning experience in the squad, and Modric would be the ideal one. Poch is building a young team at Tottenham, and the Croatian would be a perfect role model for a number of upcoming talents like Harry Winks.

Modric is arguably one of the best players to ever grace Tottenham’s midfield and he would no doubt be a welcome addition to the current Spurs side.

Spurs already boast some of the Premier League’s artistic craftsmen in Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, but Modric is a different class. We are a good team but we have lacked the world-class pedigree; Modric, I am sure, will provide that and there’s no better time to bring him back!
