Tottenham have made an enquiry over the availability of Barcelona’s Luis Suarez as the Lilywhites think about replacing Harry Kane with the Uruguayan striker, according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon.
According to the report, Tottenham are well aware of the fact that Harry Kane’s future is under heavy scrutiny, hence they have wasted no time in making contact to a potential replacement, and who better than a proven Premier League veteran.
Barcelona, on their part, are keen to land long-term Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann, given that the Frenchman is willing to leave Atletico. Hence, it is safe to say Suarez’s game time might, in one way or the other, will be hampered.
Retaining Kane, at least in the upcoming summer, will be a laborious task and Tottenham certainly know that. They tried acquiring Vincent Janssen as his deputy last season, but the Netherlands international failed to get into his groove. On came Fernando Llorente this summer but the Spaniard, despite performing decently with Swansea last season, has struggled with inconsistency.
However, acquiring the £81m rated Suarez won’t be a walk in the park, to say the least. Suarez is a proven veteran and the fact that he scored 82 goals during his three and a half years of tenure with Liverpool perfectly underlines the statement. Judging by the look of the things, Suarez’s desire to move away from a guaranteed Champions League club seems highly unlikely. Furthermore, even Don Balon has claimed that that Uruguayan himself is not evaluating Tottenham’s offer as he feels at home at Barcelona.
His family has settled perfectly well while his friendship with Lionel Messi both on an off the field remains the trait of utmost importance. The South American duo perfectly complements each other and there hardly remains a chance of him leaving the club because of Griezmann’s arrival. But let’s say he once gets his mind up to move to Tottenham, Barcelona’s asking price in this highly inflated market would snub off every interest from Tottenham.
Safe to say all this ‘Suarez to Tottenham’ rumours are completely unrealistic given that there is no reason as to why the Uruguayan would leave a club of Barcelona’s stature to go anywhere. Agreed, the striker is yet to hit the ground running this season as he has only bagged 9 goals in 21 appearances in all competition, but that remains a phase which would eventually pass.
