According to a report by The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur have retained their interest in a summer move for West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon. After enduring a dismal campaign in the Premier League, the Baggies have dropped to the Championship.

In such a situation, it is not uncommon to see a mass exodus of players and as far as Rondon is concerned, The Mirror claims Chelsea and West Ham United are also harbouring an interest.

Since West Brom have been relegated, Rondon could be available for as little as £16million, which is a bargain price in today’s inflated transfer market.

In 37 English top-flight appearances in the recently concluded season, Rondon scored a total of 7 goals. That is not a promising number but one must bear in mind that West Brom were faced with a significant lack of creative outlet.

Rondon would not face a problem like that at Tottenham. If the deal does go through, it goes without saying that Mauricio Pochettino will utilise him as a backup for Harry Kane.

The newly-appointed English captain has been absolutely phenomenal for us but it is not possible for him to carry the brunt of the team’s attack on his shoulders. Fernando Llorente was brought in to ease the pressure on the 24-year-old but the former Swansea star has proven to be rather ineffective.

Since we could land Rondon for a fee of £16m, it does make sense for us to consider a deal. But after the Llorente episode, should we really purchase a striker from a bottom club again?
