Xherdan Shaqiri has come out and stated that he would like to stay in the Premier League once he leaves Stoke City and that is good news for Tottenham as we are interested in the Swiss winger according to the Mirror.
“It is no longer a secret that I will leave Stoke City. I think the Premier League is perfect for me. I would love to stay in England, but I do not want to rule anything out.
“It is the best league with the best players – simple.”
The Swiss scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists for Stoke City but he could not stop them from getting relegated. The report also says we could snap him up for a bargain price of just £12million as the 26-year-old is ready to stay in the Premier League.
However, we do face competition from Southampton manager Mark Hughes as the former Stoke manager tries to get Shaqiri.
Shaqiri is currently with the Swiss national side as they prepare for the World Cup and it will be interesting to see where he does land up once the season starts.
A big name but a bit hit and miss
Shaqiri was a surprise signing when he joined Stoke City from Inter Milan but he hasn’t been able to replicate the form that saw him join Bayern Munich from Basel.
The 26-year-old does have an odd flash of brilliance but his consistency is a problem and Shaqiri would be a decent option to have as a squad player.
His release clause of £12million is peanuts compared to what is being paid these days for half decent players and with the Champions League on our side this season, Shaqiri would be worth a punt under Mauricio Pochettino.
