Real Madrid would not make it easy for any club to sign Mateo Kovacic as the Croatian has a release clause of €300million, according to Marca.

The figure comes after the Madrid midfielder stated that he would want a move away from the club for more playing time and Tottenham were one of the clubs interested in the 24-year-old.

Kovacic, who is at the World Cup, was signed by Rafa Benitez but could not become a regular starter for Zinedine Zidane as the Frenchman led the La Liga giants to three consecutive Champions League triumphs.

The report also says that Madrid will not allow an easy transfer for Kovacic as Florentino Perez sees the 24-year-old as a player with immense potential. The president also believes that the Croatian will provide a lot to new manager Julen Lopetegui.

Real see Kovacic as the ideal player to replace another Croatian, Luka Modric. The star midfielder is 32 at the moment and would not have many years left in him to perform at the top.

The release clause certainly is a huge one and it will be difficult seeing any club spend that big on a player who is not a starter for Madrid.

In all probability, the club could sell him for a much lower amount if he can guarantee a decent return for the reported €30million spent in purchasing him.

Real are notorious when it comes to transfer negotiations but with us selling a couple of our stars to the club in recent years, we could be one club that they don’t mind selling Kovacic to.

The Croatian would be a great fit for our side and getting him to the Premier League should be one of the priorities for Daniel Levy and Pochettino.
