Bad news for Tottenham as Manchester United enter race to sign £44million-rated target – report

According to reports from Spain, Manchester United are interested in signing long-term Tottenham target, Mateo Kovacic.

Cadena Cope (h/t The Sun) claims that the 24-year-old Croatian is a target for Jose Mourinho ahead of the new season and a bid of £44million would be enough to sign him from Real Madrid.

Kovacic had recently spoken out about moving away from Madrid in search of regular football. While he is currently a part of Croatia’s World Cup squad, it goes without saying that the youngster needs to play more first-team football and start matches.

To that end, the midfielder is the ideal player for our side. In fact, he would be a great replacement for Mousa Dembele, given that the Belgian’s future is uncertain.

If Manchester United are able to bring Kovacic to Old Trafford, it could mean bad news for us. However, Real might not want to sell to Mourinho, given the history between the two.

But as far as Tottenham are concerned, we have had a good number of transfer dealings with Los Blancos. After all, we sold our top stars – Luka Modric and Gareth Bale – to the La Liga giants and this relationship should help us acquire Kovacic’s services.

To develop and progress further, Kovacic must exit Real and join a new club. But how brilliant would it be if he chooses to join Tottenham ahead of Manchester United?
