Tottenham face competition for the signing of Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes according to Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Express).

The Portuguese midfielder could be sold by the Catalan side in the summer and Arsenal could move for the 24-year-old, who has not been able to fix a place in the Barcelona starting XI.

The 24-year-old is valued at around £35m as we look to bring in another midfield option for Mauricio Pochettino, especially with Mousa Dembele looking extremely likely to leave the Premier League before the start of the season.

Gomes is also wanted by an Italian club as the report claims that Juventus want to bring the 24-year-old to Turin.

The former Valencia man has struggled to perform at Barcelona and he made 25 appearances for Barcelona in the La Liga and the Champions League.

However, 18 of those appearances came off the bench and the midfielder only played 800 or so minutes in the first-team last season.

Gomes does have the skill and ability to become a decent option for us next season and with the midfielder not playing a lot of football, we could low ball Barcelona and get a bargain for Gomes even though he is rated at £35m.

However, with Arsenal and Juventus also keeping an eye on the 24-year-old, Barca could look for the highest bidder and that might turn out to be a problem for us.

Gomes does need to resurrect his career and moving to Tottenham would ensure Champions League football. And working with Pochettino has to be an added attraction given how much the Argentine improves players.
