Chelsea are looking to beat Tottenham to the signing of Jack Grealish for around £20million, according to The Sun.
Spurs have been linked with a move for the Aston Villa star but the report suggests that the move from the Blues will receive an “approval” from former Chelsea player John Terry.
The English defender did move to the Championship side from Chelsea but missed out on making it to the Premier League after losing to Fulham in the playoffs.
The Grealish-Tottenham saga took another turn as Mirror claimed that the new owners of Villa would not be selling any of their stars.
However, a Villa source was quoted by The Sun as claiming that Financial Fair Play next season is something which is not in the club’s control.
“The new owners do not need to sell players but are aware of Financial Fair Play next season, which is out of their hands.”
Grealish is certainly someone we can do with given the paucity of options we have at the back. The 22-year-old central midfielder was one of the best players in the league last season and could do a decent job for us this season.
However, Chelsea coming into the fray will only complicate things for us. Their presence could hike Grealish’s price, which would be a favourable situation for Villa.
The last thing we would need is a bidding war for Grealish and hopefully, Daniel Levy can avoid this and sign the player up quickly.
