Frenkie de Jong

Manchester City are trying to beat a host of clubs to the signing of Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham (h/t Football.london).

The report claims that Ajax rejected a £45 million bid for their youngster from Spurs. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City are interested in the 21-year-old, as per the report.

City have contacted the Dutch club in hopes of finalising a deal for the midfielder ahead of the other clubs, according to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Football.london).

De Jong has played seven games in all competitions for Ajax and is regarded as one of the brightest talents in Dutch football.

Former Barcelona star Ronald de Boer also expects De Jong to leave the Dutch club soon and was quoted as saying:

“Frenkie is incredible. He is a footballer for whom you go to a stadium to watch him play. He is one of those who marks the differences and is still very young.

“I do not know if it will end at Barca but it would be normal for him to leave. If he arrives at the Camp Nou, he has quality enough to succeed.”

Spurs have made it a habit of signing players from Ajax in recent seasons. Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez all have moved from Holland to Tottenham, and it would be incredible if De Jong follows suit.
