Tottenham

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has claimed that the rising costs of the new stadium will not have an impact on our transfer budget. (h/t Evening Standard)

In a meeting with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, the club confirmed (h/t Evening Standard) that the rising costs, which include renting Wembley for games and pay a 24-hour workforce, have resulted in cost-cutting.

The minutes from the meeting further read (h/t Evening Standard):

“[Daniel Levy] confirmed the costs had definitely risen and [executive-director Donna-Maria Cullen] added that the Club was cutting internal costs where possible (campaigns, marketing etc.),”

Tottenham didn’t sign any players in the summer but Levy claimed that not selling anyone also had a role for our inactivity.

“[Levy] explained that the club had based the summer window on certain assumptions that some players might be leaving and certain targets would be available.”

The report further claimed that Mauricio Pochettino didn’t want to sign players for the “sake of it” and believed Spurs had sufficient options in the team.

The minutes added that Tottenham have a fixed amount for transfers and it would not be affected by the stadium:

“[Levy] said…the stadium won’t directly impact on the transfer policy. There is a certain amount earmarked for transfers.”

Tottenham’s new stadium was scheduled to open in September but delays related to safety systems have pushed that date back.

The report adds that the cost of the new stadium has doubled since the work started in 2015.
