Former Tottenham winger Jermaine Jenas

Former Tottenham player Jermaine Jenas believes the current team is missing players that don’t buckle under the pressure.

The Englishman was writing in his column for the Daily Mail and highlighted instances against PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan where we couldn’t hold on for the three points, despite leading in both instances.

Those situations have made it tough for Tottenham to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.

The former Tottenham star claimed that Spurs aren’t a young team any more and didn’t want this group of players to compare themselves to the earlier teams that would finish in mid-table.

“They’re better than that now but at the moment I think they’re lacking generals, the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard when at Chelsea or Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand in Manchester United’s great era or Fernandinho and David Silva at Manchester City now.

“Experienced players whose mentality won’t waver under pressure.”

Jenas wanted stars such as Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen to do more, and claimed this side was better than the Arsenal team from 2008.

Tottenham have enjoyed a fine start to the Premier League campaign, but it wouldn’t mean much if we could not convert that into some silverware.

Jenas does have a point of us not being strong mentally as we have seen in the past. Mauricio Pochettino has to work on improving the mentality and toughness of the team.

Should the Argentine achieve that, we would certainly be close to winning titles with our manager.
