Manchester United pulled the plug on Jose Mourinho’s tenure at the club after the defeat to Liverpool. The 3-1 result at Anfield meant United are 19 points behind the Premier League leaders after just 17 games, and the Portuguese has struggled to get the team playing quality football this season.
The Telegraph reports that United will name a permanent replacement for Mourinho in the summer, and the report adds that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is 8/1 to replace the former Real Madrid man.
The report claims that the lack of investment in the side could be a reason why the Argentine decides to leave and praised the manager for his role in developing youngsters:
“A top coach who improves young players, he appears to have every necessary attribute to succeed at the top, but a lack of Tottenham trophies casts nagging doubts.”
Poch isn’t the only manager at 8/1 with former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte also in the frame. The Italian has been out of work since leaving Stamford Bridge at the start of this season, but the favourite is Zinedine Zidane.
The French manager worked wonders for Real leading them to three Champions League titles during his stay at the club.
The report adds that no compensation would have to be paid to sign Zidane since he is out of work, and that could be appealing to United.
Pochettino certainly is one of the best in the world, and we have to do everything we can to keep him. The summer is going to be important for the futures of both clubs, and hopefully, we come out on top and let the Argentine do his thing in our new stadium.
