Juan Foyth Tottenham

Juan Foyth has been Tottenham Hotspur’s breakout star this season. The youngster attracted eyeballs with his gutsy performances in the heart of the defence and has truly blossomed into a confident and powerful centre-back.

But in a recent interview with Spurs’ match day programme (h/t Football London), Foyth revealed that his initial days were not as smooth-sailing.

At the age of 20, it can be daunting for any player to come in and make a mark for himself, especially in a league as demanding as the English top-flight. But that did not stop Foyth from gritting his teeth and working hard to get to where he is right now.

Not shying away from crediting the team and staff, the Argentine defender said: “It’s been a really good first 16 months for me. I’m really happy to be here. The staff and my team-mates are good people so I’ve been enjoying every day, every moment I have here.

“When I arrived I was very nervous because one day I was playing FIFA at home and the next I was training with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli, so it was a big change for me.”

He further claimed that he signed for Tottenham specifically because there are plans for every single player. Foyth also heaped praises on the backroom staff and members as he credited them for his exponential growth. However, he did open up about struggling with nervousness initially.

“I might have been nervous initially, but they received me well which gave me a lot of confidence and meant I could enjoy my time.

“Playing in the Premier League was always my dream so to get the chance to come here was great.”

The young Argentine added that his father’s support has also been instrumental in his successes, revealing that Foyth senior continues to live with him in London.

Well, it is great to see him spread his wings out. Let’s hope our young Foyth continues to progress rapidly and becomes a mainstay for us in the near future.
