Football journalist Mark Ogden believes Mauricio Pochettino’s latest comments are levelled at Daniel Levy as our manager wants money to spend in the transfer market.

Spurs were the only side not to sign a player in the summer, and Pochettino has claimed that it would be difficult to bring new faces in January too.

Pochettino recently claimed that the club needed to “change the way they operate” and Ogden believes this is a way to get more money (h/t Daily Star).

Speaking to ESPN, the journalist said (h/t Daily Star):

“[Pochettino’s] basically challenging Daniel Levy to give him some money to spend.”

The journalist added that in all probability the answer for more money would be ‘no’. This was not due to the fact that Levy didn’t want to provide money to Pochettino to strengthen the side, but due to the new stadium and its costs spiralling out of control.

“It’s way more expensive than they thought it would be, so can they afford to go out and spend £200m on players this summer? No. Because they have to find a way to finance the stadium.”

Ogden also was unsure about our ability to sign players without selling first.

The Daily Star claims that Pochettino has been linked with the Manchester United job next season, however, the Argentine recently claimed he could finish his managerial career at Spurs.

Our manager has worked wonders with the same side from last season, and we seem to be getting better. Levy has to find some way of helping Poch as we have to bring some fresh faces sooner rather than later.
