Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with the second half performance against Manchester United, despite Tottenham losing 1-0.

The defeat meant Spurs lost ground on Premier League toppers Liverpool and sit nine points behind Jurgen Klopp’s men.

United scored via Marcus Rashford in the first half but had their backs against the wall in the second. Tottenham peppered David de Gea from all angles and the Spaniard made 11 saves.

Pochettino told BBC Sport that the second half performance was amazing and added that this was the best performance we put out during his tenure:

“Tottenham did everything to win the game. Maybe we dominated and we created a lot of chances.

“The team was fantastic. That is the best 45 minutes I have seen Tottenham play since I took in charge.”

The Argentine highlighted that winning some games can be disappointing like the 3-0 win over United at Trafford, but even with the opposite result today, he was happy.

Pochettino added that the playing risky football was the way to grow for the side and believed David de Gea was the right candidate for the Man of the Match award.

“That is the way that we want to grow and play – taking risks, playing football that we are going to play.”

Pochettino was right in saying that Spurs played extremely well in the second half, and had it been any other keeper in the world, we would have won the tie.

De Gea played his best game of the season, and it was a mixture of great position, reflexes and poor finishing that ensured we failed to score.

Hopefully, such bad days don’t repeat for the remainder of the season as we look to get back to winning ways against Fulham on Sunday.
