Latest Tottenham news: Spurs become first English team to win home knockout tie against German club since 2011
Tottenham were brilliant in the first leg of their round of 16 Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund. Goals from Son Heung-min, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente have given us a huge advantage before the second leg, and Opta shared an incredible stat regarding the win over German opposition.
Spurs became the first side since Manchester United in 2011 to beat a German club at home in the knockout round of the Champions League.
Dortmund had their chances to score early in the game but Hugo Lloris and our defence stood strong. Once the second half started, it was all Tottenham, and we could have scored more than the three.
2011 – Tottenham are the first English side to win their home leg of a knockout tie against German opponents in the Champions League since Man Utd in the 2010-11 semi-final vs Schalke. Dominant. #TOTBVB

Vertonghen, Son and Lloris were incredible but the rest of the team deserves credit for one of our best Champions League performances in recent history.
Spurs have some tough games coming up
The job isn’t complete for Spurs with the second leg still to come. Tottenham also have some tough games coming up against Arsenal and Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are in the race for the Premier League crown, and it will be interesting to see how we do in the remainder of the campaign.

Spurs were without some stars in the starting XI against Dortmund, but this win should give us a lot of confidence as we prepare for some big games.
