Latest Tottenham news: Arsene Wenger warns about selling players after moving to the new stadium

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned Tottenham that he had to sell some of his star players once the club moved from Highbury to the Emirates, according to the Sun.

Speaking on beIN Sports (h/t Sun), the Frenchman claimed he was in a good position because of his time at the club, but claimed that the position of the modern manager wasn’t the same.

Tottenham’s stadium is close to being complete and is expected to be one of the best in the world. However, Wenger claimed that there was a lot of pressure on him regarding his playing staff (h/t Sun):

“I was limited. First of all we had to pay the stadium back. Then the banks said only 50 per cent of our finances could be dedicated to the wages, so we had to sell our best players.”

Over the seasons, the Gunners had to sell stars such as Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri to rivals, but they kept on finishing in the top four until fairly recently.

Spurs haven’t been active in the transfer window

Mauricio Pochettino has done a fantastic job at Tottenham despite not signing a player in two consecutive transfer windows.

We even sold Mousa Dembele to Guangzhou R&F in the winter window. However, the team has been extremely competitive as we are still in the race for the Premier League title.

Spurs also picked up a huge 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg round of 16 clash and should be favourites to make it to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Hopefully, we don’t go the Arsenal way and instead, sign some players to freshen up the side once the season ends.
