Latest Tottenham news: Spurs set for first test event at new stadium

Tottenham have taken another step forward in their efforts to open the new stadium this season.

The Mirror reports that Haringey Council has approved parking restrictions around the ground for an event with an expected attendance of over 10,000.

Tottenham have to hold two test events of increasing capacities to attain a security certificate before the new ground can host games.

Spurs were expected to move into the new ground in September 2018, but there have been several safety issues which have delayed the opening of the new home.

Southampton U18 game as first test event

The report adds that Spurs delayed the U18 game against Southampton on Thursday as this is expected to be one of the test events.

Should we be able to conduct two test events, we could host five home games at the new ground. We could also play our Champions League quarter-final at the new venue.

This would be a huge boost for us to end the season on a high, especially after our incredible performances in the Champions League.

We beat Borussia Dortmund in both legs, and it will be interesting to see how we get back to Premier League action at the weekend.

Our next game is against Southampton and Mauricio Pochettino will serve the first of his two-match touchline ban.
