Spurs transfer news: Juventus line up summer bid for Toby Alderweireld
The Mirror (h/t Daily Mail) reports that Italian giants Juventus are plotting a £26million bid for Toby Alderweireld.
The report adds that Juventus want to take advantage of Alderweireld’s £26m release clause after Tottenham activated a one-year extension on his current deal.
The 30-year-old has been ever present in the team this season but we have not been able to agree on a new deal with the Belgian defender.
Alderweireld has played 37 games for us in all competitions this season, and is contracted with Tottenham till the end of next season.
Juve enter as United cool their heels
The report adds that Manchester United’s interest in Alderweireld is diminishing. United had a long-term interest in the 30-year-old but their defence has looked better under current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian, who was appointed on a permanent basis recently, is interested in strengthening other areas of the team, as per the report.
Juventus are looking at a couple of centre-backs in the summer as they looked to find long-term replacements for their impressive back-line, according to the Daily Mail.
Losing Alderweireld would be a blow, however, his release clause would be attractive for most European giants.

Finding a replacement for Alderweireld would not be easy, however, it is better we sell him to a non-Premier League side than to strengthen one of our rivals for the upcoming season.
