Spurs news: Several Tottenham fans don’t want Andre Gomes to join in the summer
Andre Gomes joined Everton on loan at the start of the season after struggling to perform at Barcelona. The Portuguese midfielder signed for the Catalans from Valencia, but rarely showed his ability for the La Liga giants.
The 25-year-old initially struggled to adjust to the Premier League but has looked better recently. The Telegraph reports that although Everton want to make the deal for Gomes permanent, Tottenham are also interested in the midfielder.
The report adds that Daniel Levy is willing to sanction £30million to sign the Euro 2016 winner.
Spurs keeping tabs on Gomes
The report adds that Tottenham’s chief scout, Steve Hitchen watched Gomes in action during the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Mauricio Pochettino also admires the player (h/t Telegraph) and Spurs need to spend in the summer window after selling Mousa Dembele this season.
Gomes has played 24 Premier League games for the Toffees this season and has one assist and one goal to his name. The Portuguese plays in a deep role and has helped Everton to two wins in their past two games.
Tottenham, for their part, are expected to spend in the summer after two barren windows. Pochettino has done a great job without adding fresh players and our lack of depth has shown somewhat this season as we have dropped from chasing the title to fighting for the top-four.
Gomes has revived his career after a poor spell at Barca, but several Tottenham fans weren’t sure about him coming to Tottenham.
