Spurs opinion: Lucas Moura provides a timely reminder of his ability after 4-0 win over Huddersfield

Lucas Moura got a start for Tottenham in their clash against Huddersfield. The Brazilian was part of a much-changed Spurs side by Mauricio Pochettino who had an eye on the Champions League clash in midweek.

Manchester City need to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, but even after resting several players, Tottenham ran out 4-0 winners over Huddersfield.

The Terriers were already relegated from the Premier League, however, this was a ruthless showing by Tottenham and by Lucas.

Moura has to score more often for Spurs

This should have been a season where Moura grew from his initial six months at Tottenham. The Brazilian was one of the most talented players at Paris Saint-Germain but a move to the Premier League didn’t seem to have worked.

However, things changed at the start of this season as he scored a brace in the 2-0 win over Manchester United.

The Brazilian looked great in the attack and had scored three in his first three games of the season.

However, that was when things started coming apart for our season too. Inter beat us in the Champions League and we lost to Liverpool at home.

Lucas only found the back of the net in October against PSV and then again against Wolves in early November.

Goals have come in bits and pieces for the former PSG man but he was our best player in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.

His first goal against Huddersfield was a rifled shot which the keeper should have done better with but his second was a brilliant touch and finish in a congested penalty box.

The third was a fantastic run after a through ball from Son Heung-min and a great finish into the top corner.

Moura has to step up

Although the season is coming to an end, the Brazilian could still achieve a lot with Spurs. We were incredible against Manchester City in the Champions League and have a real chance of making the semi-finals of the tournament if we avoid defeat in midweek.

Moura did well working off Fernando Llorente but that isn’t possible when playing alongside Harry Kane, and that is something that the Brazilian has to work on next season.

Lucas Moura celebrates after scoring against Liverpool

There is no doubting his talent and that he can provide something to Tottenham, he just needs to find his right position in the club.

Moura has seven goals when playing as a forward while he has just four goals playing from other positions this season.

It will be an interesting summer regarding who comes into the club, but a decision needs to be taken where exactly the 27-year-old needs to be played regularly.
